Heavy metal

Lead (Pb)

Lead is a toxic heavy metal that can enter food from the environment and from food-contact materials such as certain imported ceramics and cookware. Because no safe level of lead exposure has been identified and children are especially vulnerable, the FDA works to reduce dietary lead through efforts like its Closer to Zero initiative and action levels for foods intended for babies and young children.
