Heavy metal

Cadmium (Cd)

Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal that occurs naturally in the environment and is taken up from soil by many crops, so it can be present in foods at low levels. Because cadmium exposure at certain levels can be harmful to health, the FDA monitors and regulates it in food and weighs the risk to vulnerable groups such as very young children.
