Canopy is funded through crowdfunded testing fees. When users create a test request and backers pledge money toward it, those contributions go directly toward covering the cost of independent laboratory testing, product procurement, and platform operations.

How it works

• Test requests — Users submit products they want tested for contaminants. Each test request has a funding goal based on the cost of the selected lab test plus an estimated product purchase cost.
• Pledges — Anyone can back a test request by pledging money toward its funding goal. Payments are processed securely through Stripe.
• Testing — Once a test request reaches its funding goal, Canopy commissions an independent third-party laboratory to perform the testing.
• Results — Test results are made available to all users through the platform.

Refunds

If a test request does not reach its funding goal within the campaign window (30 days), all pledges are refunded. If a test request is cancelled by an administrator, all pledges are also refunded. Once testing has commenced, contributions are non-refundable.
